Members of militant Languedoc winegrowers union the Comité Régional d'Action Viticole (CRAV) staged fresh attacks at several points across the region on Wednesday (4 November) in protest against the low prices paid to producers.
The protests targeted retailers and merchants who are accused of enjoying high margins despite the current crisis in the sector.
Night raids saw tyres burned outside a supermarket in Coursan, near Narbonne, and also at an outlet in Carcassonne, whose windows were smashed. The initials 'CRAV' were found daubed on the two stores' façades.
CRAV was also behind an explosion at the offices at a bottling plant in Servian, in the Hérault department. No injuries were reported.
The group has waged its campaign intermittently over the past few years. In March, it blew up a winery's visitor centre following an attack on a co-operative a few weeks earlier where vats were emptied.

- Wow! When money is involved , folks get serious about wine. I guess it is because this is their livelihood and income.

Do you happen to know if this group's main concern is due to government controls on pricing or is it the power of the merchants/winemakers who buy the bulk grapes for their wines? Are negociants still a big force here?
