Sunday Sept 20
Chardonnay picking started Friday 9/4, and warmer temps around Labor Day weekend propelled harvest in the following week. About half of the Chard was picked by 9/11. We had a beautiful morning for our Blessing of the Grapes and Harvest Toast, held 9/10 with Father Xavier from the Carmelite Monastery in Oakville. He was amused at the opportunity to perform a blessing at a “Franciscan” winery. We always use our Estate Larsen Chardonnay for the blessing, as vineyard manager Matt Ashb…

Due to moderate temps in the 70’s or low 80’s, it’s been a very measured pace, no rush or urgency, getting the sugars just where we want, around 21-22…

Before my first winery job as a wine server, I studied and read about grapes, wines and vineyards for months.
Yet what really brought it all to life for me was standing in the middle of the Rolling Hills - Estate Vineyard at Leonesse Cellars with owner, Mike Rennie. With gritty, sandy-loam soil under our shoes and a warm summer sun reddening our faces, Mike explained with a passion root-stocks, clones, bi-lateral cordons, spurs and canopy management. In a short time I felt like a certified grape…

For a conference focused on elearning development,
Dan Roam's contention that simple drawings are one of the best teaching tools may have seemed like heresy, but its not. His book,
Back of the Napkin: Solving Problems and Selling Ideas with Pictures is based on some principles of brain function that are beginning to be understood. If over 3/4 of the neurons in our brains are d…

The teachers have won.
OnPoint Digital and a hand full of other tool providers have discovered how to reach out and test you wherever you are, provided you have a cell phone or other data-enabled device. They have the ability to capture responses through text messages, responses to audio prompts (think automated response systems) and HTML, XML, J2M and other formats. They also have a native application capability that allows content providers to push t…

For those who want to kick the caffeine habit, I highly recommend getting into a room with other people who are interested in the same things you are and want to learn more. Sat through a Breakfast Byte about mlearning with
Judy Brown, someone who has been a technologist for 40 years. She is a retired professor who spends all her time following what is happening in the mlearning space and she can't keep up. That speaks to how fast things are happening here.…
